Few places capture the spirit of Lofoten as conveniently or comfortably as Svinøya. On a small island, linked to the mainland with an impressive bridge, these rorbuer, or fishermens cabins, are within 15 minutes walk of the centre of Svolvær. Svinøya dates back to 1828, when the rorbuer offered shelter to the fishermen who came from far and wide for the cod fishing season. The old wharf has been converted to a highly atmospheric bar and high-quality restaurant. Some of the cabins are beautifully restored originals, others are more recently built in traditional style. They offer one, two or three bedrooms, kitchen, comfortable lounge with TV, and a modern bathroom with shower/wc. De-luxe cabins are also available offering two or three bedrooms with en-suite facilities.
