An unforgettable journey through the spectacular landscapes of the Nordic winter, with plenty of opportunities for stunning Northern Lights if weather conditions are right. Starting in the beautiful city of Stockholm, you then fly north to Sweden’s amazing Ice Hotel, to enjoy a guided tour of the fantastic ice sculptures, and maybe take part in some of the exciting winter activities available.
Whether you choose to sleep ‘on ice’ is entirely up to you! A spectacular rail journey through the Arctic wilderness take you into Norway to Narvik, with a comfortable bus ride on to the lovely city of
Tromsø. You will have two days to sample the delights of Tromsø before joining the Hurtigruten for the coastal voyage south, with a couple of days to relax and enjoy the ever-changing panorama through the magical Lofoten Islands and onwards to Trondheim. With a day to explore this fascinating city, the tour finishes with another scenic railway journey taking you right into Oslo airport for the homeward flight.
This flexible tour can be extended with extra nights wherever you choose, or shortened – perhaps just starting in Tromsø. It is also possible to continue south on the Hurtigruten to Bergen and then take the train across to Oslo if you wish, or to break the journey with a couple of nights in the Lofoten Islands. We will be happy to discuss all the possibilities and quote accordingly.
ITINERARY
DAY 1. 13.50 Depart Heathrow for Stockholm, arriving 17.20.
2 nights Bed and Breakfast – Nordic Sea Hotel, Stockholm.
DAY 2. At leisure in Stockholm.
DAY 3. 11.20 Depart Stockholm for Kiruna, arriving 12.55. Transfer to Ice hotel. Thermal clothing/boots will be issued on arrival and you will have a guided tour of the Ice Hotel.
Overnight in Ice Room or warm room.
DAY 4. Breakfast at the inn. Day at leisure with optional activities as required.
Overnight in warm hotel room.
DAY 5. Breakfast at the inn. Transfer to Kiruna Station for 09.30 train to Narvik, arriving
12.40. At 12.57 depart Narvik by bus for Tromsø arriving 17.25.
2 nights Bed and Breakfast – Rica Ishavshotel, Tromsø.
DAY 6. At leisure in Tromsø.
DAY 7. At leisure in Tromsø. In the late evening you join the southbound Hurtigruten ship with
comfortable outside cabin included.
3 nights Half-board – Hurtigruten
DAY 8. A day of spectacular scenery as you sail through the Vesterålen and Lofoten Islands with a detour into the amazing Trollfjord if weather conditions permit.
DAY 9. Today you will cross the Arctic Circle as you head south through more panoramic island and mountain vistas.
DAY 10. 06.30 Ship is due to arrive in Trondheim. After a leisurely breakfast you can leave the ship before it departs at 10.00 and have the whole day to explore Trondheim.
1 night Bed and Breakfast – Rica Nidelven Hotel, Trondheim.
DAY 11. 08.25 Depart Trondheim by train for Oslo, Gardemoen Airport arriving 14.43. 17.10 Depart Oslo for Heathrow, arriving 18.30.
