Without a doubt our most popular tour last winter! The tour follows a similar route to that taken by Joanna Lumley in the amazing BBC TV programme. From Trondheim you too can enjoy the
spectacular rail journey ‘Across the Arctic Circle’ to Bodø. You then have a couple of days in the magical Lofoten Islands before continuing north on the overnight Coastal ship to Tromsø. The tour finishes with two nights in Tromsø – though most people opt for an extra night as Tromsø offers so
much to see and do.
An extra night in Trondheim could also be added if you wish, or you may even opt to begin the holiday in Bergen and travel north to Trondheim on the Hurtigruten (Coastal Voyage). You could equally start with a couple of days in Oslo and take the train to Trondheim. Many people have chosen to extend the holiday at the end – either taking the Hurtigruten to Kirkenes (via the North Cape), or taking a bus south to Narvik and then a scenic rail journey across the Arctic wilderness to Sweden’s famous Ice Hotel. We will be happy to discuss all the options and quote accordingly.
ITINERARY
DAY 1. 07.20 Depart Heathrow for Oslo and onward flight to Trondheim, arriving 13.50. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure to explore Norway’s fourth largest city, and visit the magnificent Nidaros Cathedral. A later flight is also possible.
1 night Bed and Breakfast – Rica Nidelven Hotel, Trondheim.
DAY 2. 07.40 Depart Trondheim by train for the scenic journey across the Arctic Circle to Bodø, arriving 17.25.
1 night Bed and Breakfast – Radisson Blu Hotel, Bodø.
DAY 3. Morning at leisure in Bodø – noted for its white-tailed sea-eagles, and excellent Aviation Museum. At 15.00 depart Bodø on Hurtigruten (Coastal Voyage) for six-hour sailing to Svolvær. Transfer to Svinøya Rorbuer.
2 nights Bed and Breakfast – Svinøya Rorbuer, Svolvær
DAY 4. At leisure in Svolvær to enjoy this attractive little town and explore the beautiful Lofoten Islands. A daily ‘Lofoten Winter Panorama’ excursion is available and on certain days there is a Nature Safari boat trip or an evening trip in search of Northern Lights.
DAY 5. At leisure in Svolvær until departure at 22.00 on Hurtigruten for Tromsø. A comfortable outside cabin is included.
1 night Bed and Breakfast – Hurtigruten (Coastal Voyage).
DAY 6. During the early hours the ship calls at various ports in the Vesteralen Islands, then travels along the coast to Tromsø arriving at 14.30.
2 nights Bed and Breakfast – Rica Ishavshotel, Tromsø.
DAY 7. At leisure in Tromsø to enjoy its fine restaurants, museums and activities.
DAY 8. 14.00 Depart Tromsø for Oslo and onward flight to Heathrow, arriving 18.30.
