Highlights of your break will be the two occasions when you set off beneath an Arctic night sky in the hope of encountering the Northern Lights, a husky wilderness safari, plus learning the invigorating skills of cross-country skiing.
7 NIGHT ITINERARY
Your seven-night Arctic Skies & Husky Trails break begins with either a Saturday flight from Gatwick to Tromsø (which includes six nights at the Davvi Arctic Lodge in Karesuando, Finnish Lapland, after a spectacular three-and-a-half-hour transfer, travelling through the majestic fjords before passing over the Finmark plateau into Finland, and the seventh night at the Clarion Hotel With in Tromsø) or a Sunday flight from Bristol or Manchester to Kittilä (with seven nights spent at the Davvi Arctic Lodge after a two-and-a-half hour coach transfer). As well as seven nights’ full-board accommodation and loan of an all-in-one thermal suit and boots, your break includes the following activities before your return home:
NORTHERN LIGHTS SNOWMOBILE SAFARI
Duration: Two hours
An evening excursion when, with the night sky overhead, you head out through the wilderness to a vantage point in the hope of seeing the fabled and magical Northern Lights. Two adults share a snowmobile. Includes hot drink.
NORTHERN LIGHTS FOREST TREK
Duration: One hour minimum
You will be guided on a walk through the forest to a spectacular viewpoint, overlooking the divided village of Karesuando. From here, you may be lucky enough to witness the Northern Lights dancing above the village. Includes hot drink.
CALL OF THE WILD HUSKY SAFARI
Duration: Two hours
An unforgettable adventure into the wilderness, pulled by your own team of beautiful huskies. Two adults share a sled and dog team. Includes hot drink.
REINDEER CAMP
Duration: Three hours
Learn about herding and lassoing reindeer from authentic reindeer farmers. Then venture into the wilderness on a reindeer sleigh safari. Includes hot drink.
CROSS-COUNTRY SKI SCHOOL & GUIDED SKI TOUR
Duration: Two hours
The Davvi Arctic Lodge is a great choice for cross-country skiing. There are long wilderness trails, some groomed and illuminated, with one located next to the hotel. You will receive ample tuition before trying a short skiing trip. Not as complicated as it looks, healthy and great fun too.
SÁMI MUSEUM & ICE CASTLE
Duration: Half-day
The small Sámi museum at Hetta (about 50 mins drive) provides a fascinating insight into the culture and traditions of the Sámi people. The ice castle, reconstructed every year, features a number of rooms with ornate
ice
carvings.
KNIFE FACTORY
Duration: Minimum one hour
Situated on the Swedish side of the village, the tour includes a brief tour of this traditional knife factory and an opportunity to see the importance of knives in everyday Sámi life.
TROMSØ ORIENTATION WALKING TOUR & VISIT TO POLARIA MUSEUM (GATWICK DEPARTURES ONLY)
Duration: Approx 2 hours (walking tour only with guide).
A short walking tour, lasting approximately 30 minutes, of this remarkable city, with its colourful centre, rich in Arctic history. You will also visit Polaria, Tromsø’s number one tourist attraction, which offers visitors an ‘Arctic walkway’ experience, as well as a panoramic cinema, gift souvenir shop and an Arctic aquarium, where the main attraction is the bearded seals.hotel in Tromsø.
